Maria THOMAS's profile

Japanese Innovation International Forum Website

For the Japanese Economic Forum 2024, I wanted to create a digital presence that encapsulates Japan's dynamic future. The project centered around the design of the forum's website, drawing inspiration from the minimalist beauty of Japanese aesthetics. The design philosophy was anchored in the concept of 革新と伝統の融合 (The Fusion of Innovation and Tradition), with a keen focus on simplicity, functionality, and cultural essence.
Objectives:
Elegantly Minimalist Design
To mirror the simplicity and elegance of Japanese design through lean structures and clean lines, reminiscent of traditional Japanese doors.

Intuitive User Experience:
Craft an intuitive, accessible, and engaging online platform for a global audience, emphasizing ease of navigation and interaction.

Visual Harmony:
Achieve a visual harmony that reflects the forum's ethos, utilizing a restrained color palette and thoughtful design elements to enhance user engagement and brand identity.
Design Process

Inspiration and Conceptualization:
The design journey began with a deep dive into the principles of traditional Japanese architecture and interior design, focusing on the elegant simplicity of sliding doors (Shoji) and their symbolic threshold between spaces.

Wireframing & Prototyping:
Utilized Figma for crafting wireframes that emphasize clean lines and open space, ensuring the content breathes and engages the user.

Visual Design Execution:
Focused on a color scheme of white (background) for purity and simplicity, black (text) for depth and definition, and red (details) to inject vibrancy and highlight critical elements, reflecting the Japanese flag's colors.
Tools Used
Figma:
For wireframing, prototyping, and ensuring the design remained true to the lean and minimalist vision.

Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator:
For creating high-fidelity graphics, ensuring that every visual element, from icons to backgrounds, adheres to the color scheme and design philosophy.
